Movie Review: Despicable Me (2010)

Despicable_Me_PosterMovie: Despicable Me

Year of Release: 2010

Language: English

Featuring (voice): Steve Carell, Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier, Elsie Fisher, Jason Segal, Julie Andrews and Russell Brand.

Gru (Steve Carell) is an antisocial, love-deprived baddie who wants to be the best villain in the world. To do so, he plans to steal something so huge that he will go down in history. What exactly is it? The Moon. But he is in competition with Vector (Jason Segal), a crazy, young villain who also wants to steal the Moon. Gru has to steal a “Shrink Ray” from Vector which would make this mission possible. He then adopts 3 girls who, unknowingly, help him steal it. The rest of the story is about how he develops parental feelings for the girls.

This is a feel-good movie where everything is saccharine sweet and nice. The story is common where one day with a cute-looking child changes the bad guy forever. But it is carried out nicely which makes you watch it again and again.  This is no “Up” or “Shrek” but it’s still a good movie that is worth watching.
